SUMMARY:Virtual Diversity & Inclusion Author Series Workshop: Second Chance Hiring: The Untapped Talent Pool
DESCRIPTION:We are once again excited to partner with the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce to increase awareness and discussion about diversity\, equity and inclusion.\n\n\n\nTOPIC INFORMATION:\n\nVirtual Diversity & Inclusion Author Series Workshop: Second Chance Hiring: The Untapped Talent Pool\n\n\n\nPresented by Jeffrey Korzenik\n\nAuthor and economic researcher Jeff Korzenik will speak about his new book\, "Untapped Talent: How Second Chance Hiring Works for Your Business and the Community" (HarperCollins Leadership\, April 2021). The first and only book of its kind\, "Untapped Talent" shares the business case and best practices of hiring people with criminal records. The book and Korzenik's national speaking engagements have informed and inspired business leaders to broaden their hiring to this population. Korzenik argues that hiring people with records is both a business necessity -- the single best answer to our labor shortage -- and a critical component of any DEI initiative. He provides a disciplined and realistic look at this issue: not everyone with a record is ready for employment\, and even those that are may require additional support. \n\nKorzenik shares the successful experiences of pioneering second chance employers around the country\, identifying the challenges and opportunities in hiring people who have been marginalized from the workforce. Discussion topics include the realities of our criminal justice system\, models of hiring (both successful and unsuccessful)\, overcoming objections\, implementation\, refinement and where employers can find resources that will enhance the success of any second chance program.\n\n\n\nABOUT JEFFREY KORZENIK\n\nJeff Korzenik is Chief Investment Strategist of one the country's largest commercial banks. He appears frequently on Fox Business\, CNBC\, and Bloomberg\, as well as in leading print media to discuss economic trends\, including the intersection of the labor market and criminal justice. A newly elected member of the Council of Criminal Justice\, Korzenik is one of the business community's leading voices advocating for second chance hiring. \n\n\n\nThis program is presented in partnership with the KC Chamber\, Blue Springs Chamber\, Independence Chamber\, Liberty Chamber\, Mid-American LGBT Chamber\, Grandview Chamber and South Kansas City Chamber. The Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion Presenting Sponsors are Commerce Bank\, Community America Credit Union\, Evergy and Hallmark.
